STUDENT  CLUBS

South Andros High School is home to many clubs that help enrich the education of students outside the classroom.

Modern Foreign Language

This club was born out of a passion to influence young minds to explore beyond the boundaries of language and culture; to motivate academic improvement in foreign language learning at the South Andros High School; to promote and provide authentic experiences in the culture of the target languages. Hence our motto: "Enriching Students' Lives Through Exploration of Different Cultures".

Often times MFL Club Potpourri has been perceived as a travel club. We have visited French-speaking Canada, Spanish-speaking Cuba. Additionally, we have travelled on several occasions to Nassau for the annual French and Spanish show called: "Culturama," where our students have performed songs and dances of Francophone and Hispanophone cultures. We have put on the French & Spanish Assembly during the annual Modern Language Awareness week in March--collaborating with other schools in the district to display the talents, creativity and linguistic achievements of our students in French and Spanish at both primary and high school levels. We have also prepared concerts where students performed songs, poems, and dances from French and Spanish cultures. Our club's success hinges on the firm commitment of its student members, their parents/guardians along with the club coordinators to working as a team so that ultimately They Each Achieve More!

Student Christian Movement

SCM is a student-led community passionate about faith and justice. Our mission is to empower students to explore and live out the Christian faith.

Our vision is to see Christian students responding to a rich and empowering experience of God and expressing a faith that is relevant and inspiring to others.

At SCM you will encounter an inclusive community of students passionate about social justice. We come together in local groups across Southern Andros, all of which provide a space for weekly fellowship on campus. We also meet at regional and national events, which empower students through training and workshops to put their faith into action.

Debate

Once again the proud students of South Andros high School have won a chance to capture the National Debate trophy. During the semi-finals on March 14, they debated against the Long Island District. Their topic was: “Be it resolved, that education is too much about grades when considering the long term success of students.”  With the combined efforts of Monica Johnson, Jasmine Moxey, Christin Smith, Ashton Adderley and coaches Ms. Sharon Singh and Mr. Trenton Durant, the team was victorious and advanced to the National Debate Championship Finals for the second consecutive time. The finals will be held  on April 17th, 2014 at the Rain Forest Theater.
